Centene names mortgage-industry AI veteran Bradley Bolivar as CIO

The Medicaid-heavy insurer said Bolivar succeeds Brian LeClaire, who plans to retire by late October, as Centene navigates shrinking Medicaid membership and higher reimbursement pressure.

Centene Corporation has appointed Bradley Bolivar as its chief information officer, effective August 31, bringing nearly three decades of technology leadership from outside the healthcare sector. He joins from Fannie Mae, where he led enterprise technology strategy covering application development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and artificial intelligence.

Bolivar replaces Brian LeClaire, who plans to retire by the end of October. Centene CEO Sarah London said the hire reflects how data, technology and AI are now strategic capabilities for the company’s operating model, aimed at delivering simpler health experiences and improved outcomes.

The appointment comes as Centene works through the fallout from a difficult 2025, when it posted a $6.67 billion net loss driven largely by inadequate government reimbursement rates against rising medical costs. The company has since shown recovery momentum, raising full-year 2026 adjusted earnings guidance twice, most recently to above $4.80 per share after a strong second quarter.

Still, the insurer faces mixed underlying dynamics in Medicaid, its largest book of business and roughly half its total membership. Centene now expects full-year Medicaid membership attrition of 8% to 9%, up from about 6% earlier, even as the composite rate per member has improved to roughly 5%, a combination that increases scrutiny of operating efficiency as higher-margin members may churn alongside lower-margin ones, Insurance Business reported.
