U.S. Gulf Coast crude and product shipments to West Coast surge
EIA says waterborne shipments from PADD 3 to PADD 5 more than quadrupled year-on-year in April and May after a waiver expanded the set of ships allowed to travel between U.S. ports.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that waterborne shipments of crude oil and petroleum products departing the U.S. Gulf Coast rose sharply to the West Coast during April and May.
According to EIA, shipments from PADD 3 to PADD 5 more than quadrupled year-on-year in that period after a waiver allowed a broader group of ships to travel between U.S. ports.
EIA also said shipments from the U.S. Gulf Coast to the East Coast, or PADD 1, increased over the same April and May timeframe.
