Yosemite National Park land exchange under review for Kingsbarn road
Kingsbarn Realty Capital, which bought the adjacent 83-acre parcel for $4M in 2024, says a road could cut park access time from 90 minutes to a shorter drive if the exchange proceeds.
The National Park Service is reportedly exploring a deal that would cede a quarter mile of Yosemite National Park for private development, with Kingsbarn Realty Capital seeking an easement to build a road connecting nearby areas. Under the proposed arrangement, Kingsbarn would trade land of equal value elsewhere in California in exchange for the right to build the road, and federal staffers have been looking at the possibility since spring 2025, according to Bisnow. Kingsbarn plans to connect one of Yosemite’s main thoroughfares to an 83-acre plot of undeveloped land it owns outside the park, the outlet reports. The company says the change could improve access for residents of the privately owned property, which currently takes a 10-mile, 90-minute drive to reach the park from the parcel. Bisnow also reports that a Kingsbarn attorney confirmed the discussions with the Park Service. The spokesperson said the Department would follow established procedures for coordination, transparency, and public involvement under federal law, while appraisal issues and the unprecedented nature of the talks have slowed negotiations. The parcel, formerly known as Hazel Green Ranch, was purchased by the Nevada-based company from California developer Lewis Geyser for $4M in 2024, after earlier administrations turned down similar proposals.
