Billionaire-backed group launches campaign to boost data center support
The effort will begin in Kansas, Ohio, and Wisconsin and run through state legislature agendas for 2027.
Build American AI, an advocacy group backed by tech-connected billionaires, is launching a multimillion-dollar campaign aimed at countering rising anti-data center sentiment in battleground states, starting in Kansas, Ohio, and Wisconsin, according to a statement released Monday.
The group said it will expand its push as state legislatures develop their 2027 agendas, and it pledged to support bipartisan candidates aligned with further data center development.
Build American AI is also setting up a super PAC called Building the Future for its political activities, and it said the effort is focused on issues rather than specific candidates. In an X post, the group said it will back Republicans and Democrats who support U.S. leadership in AI while protecting families and empowering local communities.
The campaign is backed by a super PAC supporting artificial intelligence and data centers called Leading the Future, which counts private equity firm Andreessen Horowitz and AI and tech figures including OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale among its supporters. Build American AI said Leading the Future had about $70M on hand at the end of 2025, while Build American AI said its 501(c)(4) nonprofit has roughly $50M to pay for ads, grassroots engagement, research, and outreach, according to Axios.
