HK government acquisition moves forward for Wang Chi House flats
Housing Bureau said 75.8% of flats at Wang Chi House, 188 households, have signed sales and purchase agreements as officials progress title acquisitions under the fire buyback plan.
More than 75% of homeowners at Wang Fuk Court, in Tai Po, have agreed to sell their flats to the Hong Kong government as authorities continue acquisition procedures for the only block spared the worst of last November’s deadly fire. SCMP Economy reported that the Housing Bureau said 75.8% of flats at Wang Chi House, or 188 households, had signed sales and purchase agreements as of Wednesday.
The government said it will press ahead with the acquisition work and complete title acquisition steps by progressively signing the assignment with owners, according to a Housing Bureau spokesman cited by SCMP Economy.
After the fire killed 168 people and displaced nearly 5,000 others, authorities announced a plan to buy back flats across the eight-block subsidised housing estate in Tai Po. Under the scheme, the government is acquiring flats at HK$8,000, or HK$10,500 per square foot depending on whether owners have paid their land premiums.
SCMP Economy said buyback offers were initially sent to owners of flats in the other seven blocks before the programme was extended to Wang Chi House.
