Strategy CEO says cost of capital drove earlier Bitcoin selloff

Strategy sold nearly 7,000 BTC before restarting purchases once prices moved above $80,000, according to its CEO.

According to a Decrypt interview, Strategy CEO Phong Le said the firm’s decision to sell Bitcoin earlier was driven by its cost of capital rather than by concerns about Bitcoin’s price trajectory.

Le said Strategy sold nearly 7,000 BTC before resuming purchases at higher levels, when Bitcoin moved above $80,000.

In that account, Le framed the timing as a tradeoff between financing costs and the firm’s buying plan, noting that the underlying reason for the earlier sale was structural rather than market-tactical.

The episode is described by Decrypt as part of Strategy’s strategy shift, with the firm later returning to purchases after the price rose.
