Verisk launches US database to map insurers' data center risks

The new database covers more than 2,500 US facilities and is designed to support geospatial analysis and catastrophe modeling for data center exposures tied to AI and cloud capacity.

Verisk has launched a new US Data Center Exposure Database to help insurers, reinsurers, and brokers assess concentrations of physical assets tied to data center infrastructure, according to Reinsurance News.

The database covers more than 2,500 data center facilities nationwide and includes building-level geocoding plus information on facility footprints, physical characteristics, and operational attributes, which can be used in Verisk Synergy Studio and Touchstone workflows for insurance risk assessment and modeling.

Verisk said the effort comes as investment in digital infrastructure accelerates and demand for data center capacity rises with artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services. It pointed to industry estimates that global data center insurance premiums could increase from about $10.0 billion in 2026 to $23.0 billion by 2030.

For risk and underwriting purposes, Verisk said the mapping and detail can help identify where large concentrations of insured value are located and support activities such as exposure management and portfolio accumulation assessment, with datasets provided in flat-file records, building footprint shapefiles, and a 90-metre disaggregation grid.
