Vitality buys Icario to expand digital health engagement for payers
The deal combines Icario's member engagement expertise with Vitality’s platform to serve 19 million members and cover 30% of U.S. health plans.
Vitality, a London-based digital health company, has announced the acquisition of Icario, a Minneapolis-based digital-first health action provider. The combined business is set to serve 19 million members and reach about 30% of U.S. health plans, including eight of the 10 largest, according to the deal announcement.
The companies said the integration will combine Icario’s experience engaging hard-to-reach populations with Vitality’s health intelligence and engagement platform. Vitality added that it expects to help health plans connect member activation to sustained health improvement, including closing care gaps and improving quality performance.
Icario, which has about 181 employees based on LinkedIn data cited in the release, is described as focusing on helping health plans reach and activate members who are hardest to engage at key moments. Vitality said the acquisition also follows work intended to counter health misinformation and encourage preventive action, with plans to expand the offering to additional health and wellness services over time.
The announcement also described ongoing collaboration between the companies that dates back more than a decade, aimed at promoting healthier and more active lifestyles. The release includes comments from Vitality U.S. CEO Maia Surmava and Icario CEO Marc Willard on using the combined platform to extend engagement into a sustained, personalized journey.
