Algorand appoints William Herkelrath as CEO, highlighting post-quantum security
Herkelrath replaces Staci Warden effective Aug. 31, as Algorand pushes institutional adoption and rolls out post-quantum accounts using Falcon-1024.
CoinDesk reports that the Algorand Foundation has named William Herkelrath as chief executive officer of the organization behind the Algorand blockchain, replacing Staci Warden.
The change is tied to Algorand’s increased focus on institutional finance and post-quantum security, with Herkelrath stating that post-quantum accounts on Algorand are already live in production rather than only on a roadmap.
Herkelrath formally took over on Aug. 31, according to a press release. He succeeds Warden after nearly five years as CEO, and previously held leadership roles at Chainlink and crypto custody firm Curv, and co-founded artificial intelligence startup K3 Labs.
Algorand, a proof-of-stake network used for payments, asset tokenization, and digital identity, said it has introduced accounts secured by Falcon-1024, a lattice-based signature system. CoinDesk notes that other major blockchain ecosystems, including Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin, are researching or proposing quantum-resistant signature approaches.
