China wholesale inflation beats estimates in August as costs rise

CNBC notes the pickup is linked more to base effects and higher commodity costs than a broad strengthening in household demand.

China’s wholesale inflation rose in August, coming in above estimates, according to CNBC Markets.

The outlet said much of the projected increase reflects a favorable base-effect comparison and higher commodity costs.

CNBC added that the data does not necessarily point to a genuine strengthening in household demand, even as consumer price growth remains around forecast.

A separate CNBC World writeup reiterated the same interpretation of the August wholesale inflation drivers.
