Uganda set to export crude oil in early 2027 via new pipeline
Uganda National Oil Company tapped Vitol to market its Pearl Sweet crude, with exports tied to the EACOP pipeline being more than 90% complete.
Uganda is moving closer to becoming a crude oil exporter, with officials saying first exports are expected in early 2027 for oil produced from the Tilenga and Kingfisher fields. Uganda’s oil will be sent through the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, a project led by TotalEnergies that is now more than 90% complete, according to OilPrice.
Uganda National Oil Company has appointed global energy trader Vitol to market Uganda’s Pearl Sweet crude ahead of the initial shipments. At the APPEC 2026 conference on Tuesday, UNOC said it presented Pearl Sweet to an international audience of refiners, traders, investors, and petroleum industry leaders.
Pearl Sweet is described by UNOC as having low sulfur content of 0.12%, and it will flow through the EACOP to Tanzania’s port of Tanga. OilPrice also notes the pipeline spans 1,443 kilometers and is intended to enable Uganda to export crude for the first time, after years of delays and controversies.
