Armstrong says bitcoin has bottomed, expects uptrend into next halving
Bitcoin was trading near $78,000 on Thursday, about 38% below its roughly $126,000 all time high, as Armstrong also highlighted a 700% year over year jump in stablecoin payments on Base.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said he believes bitcoin has bottomed for the current cycle and expects the price to trend higher over the next one to two years, pointing to the next halving event as a key marker, according to The Block.
Armstrong made the comments in a Bloomberg Television interview on Thursday as bitcoin changed hands near $78,000, down 1.7% over 24 hours and about 38% below its approximate $126,000 all time high, with the article noting the asset had rebounded from summer lows.
The Block also cited Glassnode, which said bitcoin gained 23% over 21 sessions through Sept. 9 and that selling pressure has eased as the asset neared an overhead resistance band between $83,000 and $86,000.
In addition to bitcoin price views, Armstrong discussed Coinbase growth beyond bitcoin, saying stablecoin payments on Base increased 700% year over year and that he sees the stablecoin market reaching $3 trillion by 2030, with attention on payments, tokenization, prediction markets, and agentic finance as areas for Coinbase heading into 2027.
