Dauch Corporation revamps workers' comp program across 21 plants
Dauch Corporation implemented standardized processes and tracking, connecting Security, EHS, HR, and workers' compensation across six states to speed care authorization and improve claim oversight.
Risk & Insurance profiles Tiara Nelson’s overhaul of workers’ compensation operations at Detroit-based automotive supplier Dauch Corporation, after she inherited a program with minimal documentation, no standard processes, and inconsistent tracking. Nelson, a former Air Force member, stepped into the workers’ comp leader role while managing claims tied to 21 plants across six states, with real people behind each claim number.
The publication says the company’s workflow was fragmented, with Security, the EHS department, HR, and workers’ comp operating in isolation. Nelson focused on making those groups communicate, positioning herself as a coordinating link so that security and related teams could initiate care authorization immediately when an incident occurs, rather than waiting on a single point of contact.
Risk & Insurance reports that Nelson partnered with Sedgwick, its TPA, and Concentra, its occupational health provider, to establish a standardized claim review process. She also built training materials for plant managers and site contacts to clarify who does what, when incidents should be reported, and how injured associates are supported through the workers’ comp process.
To measure outcomes, Nelson developed a KPI dashboard and tracking systems covering new claims, lost-time injury frequency rates, closure times, and cost trends, aiming to create consistency and accountability across the company’s footprint.
