Mavericks seek rezoning for new arena-anchored district at Valley View
The team filed to rezone about 112 acres north of Interstate 635, after a prior plan to buy 104 acres for the mixed-use project.
The Dallas Mavericks have started the rezoning process to convert the former Valley View Center mall site into a mixed-use sports and entertainment district, anchored by a new arena, according to Bisnow and The Dallas Morning News.
The team filed a request to amend zoning for around 112 acres just north of Interstate 635 along Preston Road, including space for a sports and entertainment campus plus additional areas along Montford Drive and Alpha Road.
Bisnow reports the request follows plans announced three months earlier to purchase 104 acres at the site to build the district. The project is expected to include restaurants, entertainment options, public green spaces, and family-friendly experiences, while the team has not said how large the new arena would be.
The outlet also notes the Mavericks’ current home arena seats 19,200 and that it is not yet known when the Dallas City Plan Commission or City Council will consider the zoning filing. Team officials said they look forward to working closely with the community as the process moves forward, and the article outlines prior ownership at the Valley View site and a June SEC filing in which Seritage agreed to sell its 20% stake for nearly $51 million.
