Osisko Metals expands drilling footprint at Quebec copper project
New drill results include a 257-meter intercept at 0.85% copper, supporting higher-grade mineralization near historical underground workings.
Osisko Metals said its latest drilling at the Gaspé Copper project in eastern Quebec has extended the footprint of a past-producing mine, pointing to potential higher-grade mineralization near old underground workings. The company linked the results to its effort to revive the historic mine into a modern, large-scale operation ahead of rising copper demand.
In one standout hole, 30-1228, Osisko reported about 257 meters grading 0.85% copper and 5.13 grams of silver per tonne from 33 meters depth, including a higher-grade 28.5 meters at 4.74% copper and 27.4 grams of silver from about 200 meters downhole. Osisko said mineralization in that hole extended 50 meters below the project’s historical C zone to a vertical depth of 275 meters.
Osisko’s Gaspé project targets up to 160,000 tonnes per day of throughput, with the work designed to upgrade inferred resources toward measured and indicated categories. The new infill results also aim to support potential conversion of inferred resources, while expansion holes test for mineralization outside the current resource model and within areas classified as waste inside the conceptual pit.
The company released additional highlights, including hole 30-1235 with about 258 meters grading 0.39% copper and 3.6 grams of silver per tonne from 47 meters depth, and hole 30-1225 with about 6 meters grading 1.19% copper and 6.1 grams of silver from 260 meters. Osisko said it expects continuous drilling updates throughout the fall as assays come in faster.
