Trump predicts Iran war will end after November midterm elections
The renewed Iran conflict, tied to attacks near the Strait of Hormuz, helped push Brent crude futures above $100 a barrel for the first time since July.
US President Donald Trump predicted on Wednesday that the war with Iran will end immediately after the American midterm elections in November, saying Tehran has been trying to influence the vote but cannot sustain pressure. He linked the timeline to US economic leverage and said voters would not see the war continue beyond that window.
The conflict has entered its seventh month with no near-term end in sight, according to reporting cited by SCMP Economy. Iran said it attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz after the US sank five Iranian oil tankers, escalating renewed fighting.
SCMP Economy also reports that the renewed hostilities sent oil higher, with Brent crude futures breaching $100 per barrel for the first time since July. The outlet added that Trump’s approval ratings have fallen to a record low amid voter frustration over the war and a deepening cost-of-living crisis.
