AXIS, Sedgwick, and other insurers appoint new leaders
AXIS Capital’s wholesale casualty leadership changes take effect September 22 and include an external hire to run US excess casualty.
Several insurance and financial services firms announced leadership changes, ranging from casualty underwriting and claims administration to investment banking and specialty MGA expansion.
AXIS Capital hired Kyle Sternadori as head of US excess casualty and expanded Mike Flaherty’s role to chief underwriting officer for wholesale casualty, with both moves effective September 22. Sternadori will lead the strategic direction, underwriting performance, and market development of AXIS’s excess casualty business, while Flaherty will assume expanded responsibility for underwriting governance, product strategy, portfolio oversight, and execution, reporting to Anna Tan.
Insurance Business also said the AXIS moves signal a push to scale its excess casualty book, with wholesale brokers placing excess casualty risk expected to see more proactive engagement on appetite and capacity.
The outlet added that Sedgwick appointed Courtney Welton as global chief legal officer, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Welton joins from Allstate and will lead legal strategy, governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and responsible AI governance, a mandate that could affect how Sedgwick processes and documents claims for clients in the US P&C market.
