Flight Club to open first NYC venue at 31 Union Square West
The darts and event venue will take over the former Bank of Metropolis headquarters and the Blue Water Grill space, after a renovation that removed a mezzanine to address ceiling heights.
Flight Club, the U.K.-based darts-focused venue concept, is preparing to open its first New York City location at 31 Union Square West, a site that will also be the brand’s 12th U.S. location, Commercial Observer reported.
The building, constructed between 1902 and 1903, previously served as headquarters to the Bank of Metropolis before becoming home to Blue Water Grill from 1996 to 2019. The choice of an active restaurant and entertainment hub, along with the property’s early 20th-century architecture, was central to the selection, according to the outlet.
State of Play Hospitality, which operates Flight Club in North America under license, plans to keep distinctive historic elements, including the ground-floor banking hall with marble walls and mosaic tile flooring, plus a grand marble staircase connecting the ground floor to basement spaces, Commercial Observer said.
For the renovation, the company removed a mezzanine level that had been part of the Blue Water Grill configuration, which the operator said will help offset lower ceiling heights that were less suitable for a lively event space, the outlet reported.
