Relation Insurance turns recorded specialist expertise into faster cyber placements
Relation says it records specialists for hours, transcribes the sessions into an internal advisor model, and uses the captured underwriting data to shorten policy placement cycle time.
Relation Insurance Services, a Chicago-based specialty insurance brokerage, says the fastest change in specialty insurance is how quickly brokers can convert expert knowledge into placed policies, rather than launching new product lines.
In an interview with Insurance Business, Douglas Turk, president of specialty at Relation, described how cyber coverage has evolved from a property add-on focused on remediation and customer notifications into a standalone line centered on risk avoidance, mitigation, and analysis, including financial exposures such as ransomware scenarios.
Turk said that while the cyber market’s details have become more segmented across carriers, the core driver behind specialty insurance evolution has remained consistent for 15 to 20 years, shaped by client demands and carrier responses that produce more specific products.
As Relation scales, Turk said the firm’s priority is faster access to the specialists it already has. He described recording specialists for six to seven hours, transcribing the sessions into an internal specialty advisor model that employees can query, and capturing underwriting information during the conversations to shorten cycle time.
