Title insurance premiums rise nearly 15% in Q2 on commercial strength

Premiums totaled $5.3 billion in Q2 2026, while first-half claims fell to nearly $327 million from about $336 million.

Title insurance premiums climbed in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $5.3 billion, up nearly 15% year over year, according to the American Land Title Association’s latest Market Share Analysis as covered by HousingWire.

The growth was attributed largely to continued strength in commercial real estate transactions, which the association said supported the title underwriting business as investors and lenders seek certainty around ownership, access, and property rights.

HousingWire reports that total operating income increased 2.9% in the quarter versus Q2 2025. The industry reported $12 billion in total assets during the period, with statutory surplus of $5.4 billion and statutory reserves at $5.8 billion.

For the first six months of 2026, premium volume rose 16.1% year over year, while claims edged down to nearly $327 million from about $336 million in the same period of 2025. First American led underwriters with a 23.3% market share, and Texas generated the largest state premium total at $736.9 million.
