TotalEnergies makes final call to develop Nigeria offshore Ima gas field
The Ima project is set to start producing in 2028, targeting about 350 million cubic feet per day and supplying roughly one-third of Train 7 expansion gas needs at Nigeria LNG.
TotalEnergies has taken the final investment decision to develop the offshore Ima gas field in Nigeria, aiming to increase gas supply for the expanding Nigeria LNG export plant, the company said Wednesday.
TotalEnergies, which is operator and holds a 40% interest in the Ima field, partnered with AMNI, which holds the remaining 60%. The field, located in shallow waters near Bonny Island and covering offshore licenses OML 112 and 117, will be developed with a single platform and a 22 km pipeline connection to Nigeria LNG, where TotalEnergies has a 15% stake.
Production is expected to start in 2028, with a planned plateau of 350 million cubic feet per day, or more than 60,000 boe per day. TotalEnergies said the Ima field will supply about one-third of the gas required for the ongoing Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion project.
The Train 7 expansion is expected to raise Nigeria LNG liquefaction capacity from 22 million tons per annum to 30 Mtpa. TotalEnergies described the development as a low-cost, low-emissions project, citing simplified platform design, electric power from shore, no flaring, and permanent methane detection and monitoring.
