Trump pushes for AI to be rebranded as “super intelligence” at UN
BBC reports experts doubt the industry will adopt the term, saying “super intelligence” is usually reserved for far more advanced, potentially self-improving systems.
BBC Business reports that US President Donald Trump said he wants artificial intelligence renamed as “super intelligence” during a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
Trump argued that the existing term “sound fake,” and he said US and potentially global documents should shift from “artificial” to “super,” adding that “SI” stands for “super intelligence.”
According to the BBC, some people close to the president began using the new wording, but experts told the outlet they expect it will not gain widespread traction because the phrase is typically used to describe more advanced systems.
The BBC also said the renaming follows earlier Trump map and terminology changes and that, after polls on his Truth Social platform, “super intelligence” won among alternative name suggestions including superior, extreme, and supreme intelligence.
