CN launches first unit train from expanded grain elevator in Lis, Illinois

The upgrade added a 115-car loop track and 3.1 million bushels of new storage, with unit trains loadable in as little as eight hours.

Canadian National Railway Co., CN, shipped its first unit grain train from Total Grain Marketing’s, TGM, expanded grain elevator in Lis, Illinois, on Sept. 16, according to World Grain.

World Grain reports the project replaced the facility’s previous 25-car footprint with a new 115-car loop track and increased receiving, storage and shipping capacity.

CN said the construction added 3.1 million bushels of grain storage and built three truck unloading pits that can receive up to 85,000 bushels per hour.

The expansion also enables unit trains to be loaded in as little as eight hours, and CN said it will continue working with customers and supply chain partners to bring new projects online.
