Cowboys set 2028 start for AT&T Stadium $1 billion makeover
Arlington will fund $273 million of the project via special revenue bonds over 20 years, with renovations extending to 2043.
The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to begin improvements at AT&T Stadium in 2028, as part of a stadium revamp described as a roughly $1 billion project, according to ConnectCRE.
The team plans to contribute $750 million toward the overhaul, while Arlington will commit $273 million through special revenue bonds paid over a 20-year period. The stadium and the city said the upgrades will not focus on flashy or obvious new additions, with much of the work aimed at enhancements to safety and security.
The renovations are expected to be spread out until 2043. Arlington Mayor Jim Ross is also cited as estimating about $324 million in annual economic impact from the Cowboys, which he said totals more than $9 billion over 30 years.
ConnectCRE also notes Arlington previously approved a bond package in 2004 for the stadium’s initial construction, with bonds issued in 2005. The city said last year it paid off the initial bond debt 10 years ahead of schedule, saving more than $150 million in interest and fees.
