Delos Data raises over $100 million to build AI networking chips
The startup said its networking is designed to work across mixed compute hardware in heterogeneous AI data centers, and investors include Pat Gelsinger’s Playground Global.
Delos Data said it raised more than $100 million to develop networking chips and software aimed at tackling what it views as the next AI bottleneck, the time and infrastructure needed to get data to accelerators.
According to coverage by Yahoo Finance, the company plans to design networking that can connect across different types of compute hardware rather than assuming a single vendor stack, a strategy that creates a potential read-through for AMD even though AMD is not an investor in Delos.
Yahoo Finance also reported that the pitch challenges Nvidia’s advantage from tightly integrated accelerators, networking and software. The argument is that as inference expands, data centers may become less uniform, increasing demand for hardware-agnostic connectivity.
The article noted Gelsinger’s view that idle compute waiting for data wastes both money and energy, while also acknowledging the risk that Delos will need to prove performance improvements in commercial deployments against an incumbent with established scale and products.
