NSE debut lifts BSE cash market turnover beyond its daily average
NSE contributed ₹ 9,483.3 crore of turnover on its first day, about 46% of BSE's ₹ 20,672.4 crore total, as the BSE turnover rose to more than double its fiscal year average.
India’s National Stock Exchange debut has boosted BSE’s cash equity turnover, with NSE accounting for well over two-fifths of rival BSE’s turnover on day one, according to exchange data cited by LiveMint Markets.
NSE logged ₹ 9,483.28 crore in cash turnover, compared with BSE’s total equity cash turnover of ₹ 20,672.36 crore. BSE’s overall turnover on Thursday was more than twice its average daily cash turnover of ₹ 10,117 crore so far this fiscal year.
Market analysts expect the early spike to fade after an initial period of listing euphoria. V.K. Vijayakumar of Geojit Financial Services said BSE’s equity cash market share would rise only marginally, with a 1% to 2% increase possible after the frenzy, while exchange data showed BSE’s market share around 7% in 2025-26.
The NSE stock’s delivery volume on BSE was 48.78%, with 25.1 million shares changing hands out of 51.5 million traded. NSE also listed at a 0.84% premium to its IPO price of ₹ 1,785, then rose 1.85% to ₹ 1,818 on BSE during a volatile session that saw the Sensex close down 1.67%.
