Starbucks plans to close 250 stores in North America this week

Starbucks will close 250 stores across North America this week as part of its broader overhaul effort, according to the New York Times Business and the Commercial Observer.
The company said the affected cafes did not meet its financial or customer service expectations, pointing to performance shortfalls at specific locations.
Commercial Observer also reported that this is the second round of large-scale closures since Brian Niccol took over as chairman and CEO in 2024, and noted that the “Back to Starbucks” overhaul is still underway.
Starbucks chief operating officer Mike Grams said in a letter to employees that additional closures are part of the current phase of the company’s changes.
