Westinghouse Air Brake lands $700 million-plus rail services deal in Guinea

The agreement extends a locomotive relationship with support services including maintenance, parts overhauls, remote diagnostics, and training for the Simandou rail line.

Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation, listed on the NYSE as WAB, announced on September 21 a services agreement worth more than $700 million with La Compagnie du TransGuinéen, according to Yahoo Finance. The deal builds on locomotive orders placed in 2024 for the Simandou project, pushing announced agreements for the project to more than $1.2 billion, including earlier equipment orders.

The rail line runs more than 600 kilometers between the Simandou mine and Guinea’s Port of Morebaya. Under the new agreement, WAB will provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, parts and component overhauls, logistics support, remote diagnostics, and training, extending the relationship beyond the initial locomotive delivery into ongoing fleet support.

For investors, the article highlights that the services model can generate revenue throughout the equipment’s operating life, with repeat orders tied to maintenance needs. It also notes that WAB’s familiarity with the locomotives, along with remote monitoring, could help diagnose problems earlier and reduce prolonged downtime.

Yahoo Finance also points out that the release describes multiyear contract value rather than $700 million of annual revenue or immediate cash receipts, and that the exact contract duration and revenue timing were not specified. The broader freight business, it adds, showed momentum in the most recent quarter, with second-quarter freight revenue up 16.9% to $2.24 billion and GAAP operating margin rising to 22.5% from 21.6%.
