Delaware stays AIGs coverage suit over YouTube social media claims
Google filed its California coverage action on Feb. 11, 2026, and Delaware stayed AIGs case 16 days later under the McWane framework.
A Delaware court has stayed an American International Group coverage dispute with Google, deferring to a earlier case filed in California over social media claims tied to YouTube.
American Home Assurance Company and National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA, both part of the AIG group, asked the Delaware Superior Court for a ruling that they owe no duty to defend or indemnify Google, Alphabet, and YouTube in the Social Media Litigation.
The dispute centers on thousands of lawsuits filed since 2022 alleging YouTube harmed minors. Google began tendering claims to AIG in July 2024, and an AIG reservation of rights letter was not delivered until June 4, 2026, after the parties had already sued.
Google initiated its action in California on Feb. 11, 2026, and AIG filed in Delaware 16 days later seeking the opposite outcome. AIG later amended the Delaware case to add more than 25 other insurers with contingent claims.
