HousingWire reports that Hive MLS CEO Daniel Jones authored a Declaration of MLS Stewardship Principles, positioning it as a proposed foundation, or “MLS constitution,” for what MLSs are responsible for as the real estate marketplace changes.

In the declaration, Jones draws a distinction between MLS cooperation and broker public marketing, and he urges MLSs to maintain licensing control over how AI uses data.

HousingWire also reports that Jones warned MLSs they must rebuild brokerage relationships, saying otherwise they could face dissipation within five years, as consolidation and the MLS role evolve.

The declaration comes as MLS leaders grapple with issues including private listing strategies, data ownership, cooperation versus public marketing, and questions tied to AI, consolidation, and the future of the cooperative marketplace.
