University of Michigan consumer sentiment rises as inflation expectations stay elevated
The report showed one-year inflation expectations holding at 4.6%, while the five-year measure remained at 3.4%.
The University of Michigan’s final reading of September consumer sentiment came in at 48.1, compared with 47.6 expected, after a preliminary figure of 47.8 and a prior month level of 51.7, according to Forexlive.
The survey’s current conditions component was 50.9, matching the preliminary reading, while expectations were 46.3 versus 45.8 in the preliminary estimate.
Forexlive also noted that one-year inflation expectations were unchanged at 4.6%, and five-year inflation expectations stayed at 3.4%.
Despite the sentiment “beat,” the outlet said the inflation measures remained high, and it pointed to a link between inflation expectations and gasoline prices.
