Foreign tourist groups largely disappear from Thailand’s attractions

Charoon Youngprapakorn, who has spent a lifetime at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo near Bangkok, says the show has increasingly shifted from overseas visitors to mostly Thai baht as tips.

He notes that busloads of overseas tour groups have largely disappeared, even as the crocodiles still take tips at the end of each show.

According to the report, tourism accounts for roughly one-fifth of Thailand’s economy, reaching from five-star resorts in Phuket and Koh Samui to jet-ski operators and massage parlours in Pattaya.
