Hikers ask for live updates as Po Pin Chau trial slots sell out
Visitors reported pre-bookings were fully taken even several days ahead, leading some to wait for on-site openings or switch hikes.
Hikers visiting Hong Kong’s Sai Kung over the Mid-Autumn Festival weekend have urged operators to provide real-time displays of available time slots under a trial registration system, after booking confusion at the High Island Geo Trail’s Po Pin Chau section, according to SCMP Economy.
On Saturday morning, the second day of an extended mainland China weekend, some hikers who pre-booked continued to queue at the entrance while others sought walk-in slots on site.
A mainland postgraduate student studying in Hong Kong, Maria Chen, said she checked for reservations four days in advance but found them fully booked, adding that staff asked her group to wait 10 minutes or more to see if on-site slots would open.
Chen said she and others did not know how long they would have to wait, so they planned to head to Long Ke to continue their hike.
