Ring’s Neighbours app launches in the UK as a community message board
The app will be free for people without Ring products, and it includes a feature for police to request footage from nearby residents.
Amazon’s Ring plans to roll out a new community app in the UK next month, aiming to replace neighborhood Facebook or WhatsApp groups with a digital message board inside the Ring app.
Ring Neighbours will be available free to everyone, including residents who do not own Ring products, according to the Guardian Business.
The app will also feature community requests, where police can ask for footage from residents living near reported crimes, and residents can choose whether to share it.
The Guardian Business frames the plan as a broader expansion of Ring’s role in local communities, after the company said it intends to make the app available to a wider audience beyond existing Ring users.
