Rural Chinese couple with 13 children draws attention online
A middle aged couple in rural China has trended on social media after having 13 children, a situation highlighted against the backdrop of the country’s declining birth rate, according to the SCMP Economy.
The family lives in a village in Qinzhou in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The husband surnamed Huang is 49, and his 42 year old wife have welcomed eight sons and five daughters since their marriage 22 years ago.
Their oldest child is a 22 year old daughter who is already married, while their youngest child is two years old. The report also notes that the attention has coincided with authorities implementing policies encouraging marriage and larger families.
