Bangkok flooding forces nearly 4,900 evacuees into shelters
About 52,000 households have been affected by more than 13 inches of rain in some parts of the Thai capital, AFP reported.
Nearly 4,900 people have been evacuated to shelters in Bangkok after days of heavy rain caused deep flooding across markets, roads, and residences, according to Agence France-Presse, as cited by SCMP Economy.
AFP said flooding affected around 52,000 households, with more than 13 inches of rain recorded in some areas of the city, leaving some shops low on stock.
In the Thai capital, AFP reported residents waded through knee-deep water in rain ponchos and, in some cases, floated belongings in plastic tubs as water levels remained at chest level near at least one flooded neighborhood.
AFP also quoted a motorbike-taxi driver saying people could not leave their homes and that he went to a grocery store because supplies were running low.
