Bill Gates urges regulation and enforcement for AI safety
Gates said self regulation is not enough, and called for safeguards and monitoring to be made a required part of AI development discussions.
Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates called for the US to regulate the development of artificial intelligence, saying AI left unchecked could have severe consequences.
In an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker aired on Meet the Press, Gates argued that politicians and law enforcement should be involved in discussions about what safeguards and monitoring should look like, saying that requirement is needed.
Gates also said self regulation is not enough, and warned that AI in the wrong hands could be powerful enough to drive events that cause mass casualties.
