Accenture urges insurers to use enterprise-wide AI strategy to boost returns
Accenture found only 23% of insurers have reached enterprise-wide integration of AI deployment, leaving most organizations without broad upskilling across underwriting, claims, actuarial, and operations.
Insurance Journal, citing research from Accenture, said insurers can improve the return on their AI investments by moving beyond isolated pilots and instead building an enterprise-wide strategy. The research argues that segmented approaches can split ownership and investment across parts of the business, limiting overall impact.
Accenture’s report found that AI capability remains concentrated in smaller groups, with limited enterprise-wide upskilling across functions including underwriting, claims, actuarial, and operations. It also said fewer than one in four insurers, or 23%, have achieved enterprise-wide integration of AI deployment.
The report recommended a more holistic approach, saying it can help insurers connect different AI initiatives and anchor work to measurable business outcomes. It added that this can support productivity and revenue goals through AI-literate workforces and capabilities embedded across the enterprise.
