China fires first electron beam for Hefei super-microscope project
The Hefei Advanced Light Facility fired its first beam on September 20, accelerating electron bunches with a 192-meter linear accelerator to 2.2 billion electron volts.
China has produced its first electron beam for the Hefei Advanced Light Facility, part of a broader push toward building a “super microscope,” according to SCMP Economy.
The facility, located in central China’s Anhui province, fired its first electron beam on September 20 as a milestone for the fourth-generation light source project.
Electron bunches generated by the electron gun were accelerated by a 192-meter (630-foot) linear accelerator until they reached 2.2 billion electron volts, the outlet reported.
