Flour mill suppliers push efficiency as energy costs rise
Suppliers said rising energy and commodity prices are driving milling firms to prioritize lower energy use, easier cleaning and maintenance, and greater automation.
A more competitive flour milling market is pushing equipment suppliers to focus on efficiency gains, including reducing energy consumption and minimizing downtime, according to World Grain.
World Grain reports that Bühler, a Switzerland-based equipment maker, said suppliers are tailoring solutions to customer needs as energy and commodity prices rise, with a focus on equipment that cuts power use, simplifies cleaning and maintenance, and integrates with automation.
The outlet also said SWISCA, based in Appenzell, Switzerland, described energy efficiency as “top of mind” for millers and framed the approach as simplification, optimization, and automation to keep milling plants running smoothly and reliably.
World Grain added that staffing is a growing challenge for the milling industry, as fewer people want mill jobs or have the know-how to operate mills at high efficiency, and it noted that more regulations are being placed on milling operations.
