Hong Kong opens 1-month consultation on arbitration law reforms
The consultation will consider amendments to Hong Kong’s Arbitration Ordinance across four key areas to improve its alternative dispute resolution framework.
Hong Kong authorities have launched a one-month stakeholder consultation to reform the city’s arbitration laws, aiming to boost competitiveness as an international dispute resolution hub, according to coverage by SCMP Economy.
Hong Kong’s Department of Justice said the consultation, announced on Monday, will focus on amendments to the Arbitration Ordinance, which governs the use of alternative dispute resolution, and will cover four key areas intended to enhance the existing arbitration framework.
A Department of Justice spokesman said the changes are meant to attract more businesses to choose Hong Kong as the seat of arbitration and to support an arbitration legislative framework that keeps pace over time.
