Mayer Brown adds John Grothaus to insurance transactions team in Chicago
The partner appointment expands the firm’s focus on life insurance transactions, including strategic equity and hybrid capital raises, reinsurance arrangements, and reinsurance financing involving Asia-Pacific cross-border deals.
Mayer Brown has appointed John Grothaus as a partner in its Chicago office, adding him to the firm’s Corporate & Securities and Global Insurance practices, the firm announced.
Grothaus joins from Sidley Austin LLP. He advises insurance, financial services, and private equity clients on corporate and securities matters including mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, public and private securities offerings, reinsurance transactions, and complex insurance financings.
The firm said Grothaus has experience in the life insurance market, including transactions tied to strategic equity and hybrid capital raises, funding agreement-backed note transactions, and strategic reinsurance arrangements.
Mayer Brown also noted that his practice includes international work, such as cross-border transactions across the Asia-Pacific region and outbound reinsurance transactions originating in that region.
