New Irish rules raise the bar for Dublin data centre power connections

The new regulatory framework is meant to give clearer guidance for new data centre connections, even as it makes development more difficult in the short term.

Bisnow reports that new regulations have restarted Dublin's data centre development market, but investors and developers say the rules also add more approval steps than in other, less regulated European markets.

At an Ireland data centre conference and expo in Dublin, industry participants argued that short term disruption could support long term progress, provided developers can adopt more innovative approaches to build their own power ecosystems.

Bisnow also notes that Ireland's Commission for Regulation of Utilities introduced a regulatory framework to provide clarity for new data centre connections, while Echelon Data Centres head of investment Charlie Etheridge said the rules bring clarity but could make development harder initially.
