Redacted police report adds details to death of Chinese researcher
The report says Wang Danhao met with two DHS officers outside his Ann Arbor home for about 10 minutes before moving the conversation to a coffee shop.
A heavily redacted police report has added new details to the death of Wang Danhao, a 31 year old Chinese semiconductor researcher at the University of Michigan, who died after attempting suicide following what US federal agents described as a routine and voluntary interview, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports that on the morning of March 18, Wang spoke with two Department of Homeland Security officers for about 10 minutes outside his rented home in Ann Arbor. After one officer offered to end the interview due to the weather, Wang suggested continuing at a nearby coffee shop, where the conversation lasted another 30 minutes.
The outlet adds that late the next night, Wang arrived at the university’s GG Brown Building with red eyes and appeared to have been crying. Moments after meeting a colleague who wanted to ask him about a research paper, Wang attempted to take his own life by falling, and died from his injuries in hospital about two hours later.
