UWM appoints Vandad Fartaj as its first chief investment officer

The new role will oversee UWM’s capital strategy, investment strategy, and portfolio management.

United Wholesale Mortgage appointed Vandad “Vandy” Fartaj as its first chief investment officer, creating a new position focused on the company’s capital markets and investment strategies, HousingWire reports.

In the role, Fartaj will lead capital markets initiatives, investment strategy, and portfolio management, with responsibilities that also include work across the organization on capital strategy.

HousingWire reports that Fartaj brings about 30 years of experience in mortgage banking, capital markets, investing, and finance. Prior to UWM, he spent 15 years at Pennymac, where he served as chief investment officer.

HousingWire also notes that Fartaj previously served as chief investment officer at CrossCountry Mortgage, and that UWM CEO Mat Ishbia said the company wanted a leader with deep capital markets knowledge and a proven track record.
