Santam Syndicate 1918 names Hina Shavdia COO

Shavdia will be based in London and report to CEO Sam Geddes as the unit officially opened for business on Jan. 1, 2026.

Santam Syndicate 1918, part of Santam Group, Africa’s largest non-life insurer, has appointed Hina Shavdia as Chief Operating Officer, the company said.

Shavdia will report to Sam Geddes, the Syndicate’s CEO, and will be based in London.

The appointment follows recent leadership hires, including Sam Geddes as CEO, Nigel Tatlock as Head of Property, and Atang Matebesi as Chief Commercial Officer, with the Syndicate opening for business on Jan. 1, 2026 after receiving Lloyd’s final permission in December.

Reinsurance News said Shavdia brings more than two decades of global insurance and reinsurance transformation experience, most recently serving as Group COO at Volante Global, where she led operational and shared-services transformation and chaired a global change board.
