The report highlights a shift in reading habits in Singapore, where residents say work commitments and limited time have made it harder to keep up with books.
One Singaporean, Najwa Alhabshi, described how her teenage reading of classics such as The Great Gatsby and 1984 gave way as her career progressed, with her phone eventually taking over.
SCMP Economy also notes that Singapore has taken action by launching the paid reading program earlier this month.
