Bangkok expects standing water to clear within three days after floods
Thailand said Bangkok received about 320mm of rain over two to three days last week, and baggage operations at Suvarnabhumi Airport were disrupted enough to require Thai Air Force support.
Thailand expects standing water in Bangkok to clear within three days, provided there is no additional rainfall, the government said Tuesday as flooding disrupted transport services.
Standing water follows heavy rain that totaled around 320mm over two to three days last week, nearly matching the amount Bangkok normally receives for all of September, according to the government.
While Bangkok’s main airports kept operating through the weekend rain and flooding, baggage handling at Suvarnabhumi Airport was severely affected, prompting the Thai government to call in 69 Thai Air Force personnel to support ground operations for Thai Airways.
The cabinet is set to discuss longer-term plans to address flooding and recovery measures on Tuesday, government spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises said in a briefing, according to SCMP Economy.
