China plans AI-driven Mars geological map by end-2028
The map is expected to draw on findings from Zhu Rong, China’s first rover on Mars, and support the Tianwen-3 mission.
China plans to complete an AI-driven geological map of Mars by the end of 2028, as its space rivalry with the United States intensifies, according to SCMP Economy citing state news agency Xinhua.
The planned map is intended to cover the entire surface of the red planet and serve as an important part of preparations for the Tianwen-3 mission, SCMP Economy reported.
China’s next Mars mission chief scientist Hou Zengqian said the effort will incorporate findings from Zhu Rong, the first Chinese rover sent to Mars, SCMP Economy added.
