Chinese wife donates kidney to husband despite under-10% match success rate
SCMP Economy reports that a young Chinese wife donated her left kidney to her husband after he developed uraemia, even though the success rate for non-blood relatives is under 10 per cent.
According to SCMP Economy, Liang, 25, donated in September to her husband Chung, 33, at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, where he had congenital megaureter treated for several years before it progressed into uraemia.
The outlet says Chung’s condition is present from birth and involves an abnormally enlarged ureter, and it also notes Liang married him in January and gave birth to their son shortly afterwards.
